Mr Waterworth is happy to be instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence actions.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Waterworth is the lead for aortic surgery at the Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. In addition to his surgical responsibilities, Mr Waterworth also runs a very busy thoracic aortic aneurysm surveillance clinic. Mr Waterworth was the Training Programme Director for Cardiothoracic Surgery between 2013-2019 and was responsible for the training of all cardiothoracic trainees in the North-West and Mersey regions. He has also been the Chair of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Training Committee.

Clinical Interests

Mr Waterworth has a special clinical interest in aortic valve and aortic root disease. He performs surgery for intrathoracic aortic aneurysms on a weekly basis. He frequently performs coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic valve and aortic root replacement surgery and complex aortic surgery including surgery for Acute Type A aortic dissection. Until recently he was an active member of the Heart and Lung Transplant Team in Manchester.

Summary of Publications

Mr Waterworth has published almost 50 scientific papers on aortic valve disease, patients with bicuspid aortic valves, aortic root and thoracic aortic aneurysms, cerebral protection in patients with thoracic aneurysms, risk prediction/risk management in cardiac surgery, minimally invasive/endoscopic vein harvesting, heart transplantation and coronary artery bypass surgery.

Teaching & Training

Mr Waterworth was an Examiner for the FRCS(CTh) intercollegiate examination. He was also a member of the FRCS(CTh) intercollegiate examination question-setting and standard-setting committees. Mr Waterworth is one of the main cardiac surgical trainers in Manchester.
