Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Pole has undergone his expert witness training. He is registered with APIL, National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. Mr Pole enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimant and Defendant law firms in actions relating to personal injury and clinical negligence. He is happy to receive instructions in both clinical negligence and personal injury matters, in addition to coronial law matters. He can produce reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Richard Pole has been a Clinical Vascular Scientist at the Wythenshawe Hospital; part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust since 1995. Between 1998-2012 he was the Vascular Studies Unit Manager and from 2002 has held the post of Operations Director. Mr Pole has worked in the field of vascular science for over 27 years, undertaking 1,800 vascular ultrasound investigations during 2021-22. Mr Pole helped develop IVS Ltd; leading a team of over fifty clinical vascular scientists, his Company performs over 80,000 vascular investigations across the North West of England, annually. IVS became the first vascular diagnostic service in the country to be accredited by UKAS.

Clinical Interests

Mr Pole has clinical interests in carotid/cardiac surgery, cerebral perfusion injuries and mycotic aneurysms.

Research Interests

Mr Pole is particularly interested in the application of 3D ultrasound in the diagnosis of vascular disease and in cardio-vascular disease and fitness. In 2007, he presented a paper on: ‚Differential diagnoses of infra-popliteal aneurysms' at the SVT national conference.

Summary of Publications

Mr Pole has authored a number of publications covering cerebral perfusion and injury, carotid endarterectomy, stroke, deep vein thrombosis and subclavian vein thrombosis.

Teaching & Training

1998-2004: Member of the SVT Education Committee 1999-2003: Practical accreditation examiner for SVT 1999-2003: SVT representative of the Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE) 2000-2005: CASE course accreditor 2000-2006: Honorary CASE Secretary Attended and presented at European Society of Vascular Surgery meetings in Lyon (2017), Valencia (2018) and Hamburg (2019) and Rome (2022) as Academic Convenor.
