Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Dr Mathur is currently undergoing his expert witness training. He is happy to be instructed by Claimant and Defendant law firms in both personal injury and clinical negligence cases. He is registered with APIL, the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Since 2011, Dr Mathur has been a Consultant Head & Neck and Neuroradiologist at Royal Preston Hospital, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust; the tertiary Neurosciences Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria. He is currently the Trust Neuroradiology Lead and has also served as the Associate Clinical Director of Radiology from 2016-2018. In addition, Dr Mathur is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Cumbria. In 2009, Dr Mathur completed his training in radiology after rotating through various hospitals in the North West as part of the Manchester radiology training scheme and was awarded CCT with subspecialisation in Neuroradiology and Head & Neck imaging. Later, he was appointed as a Consultant Neuroradiologist at the Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust; the regional Infectious Diseases Centre at this Trust provided him with experience in imaging of infectious diseases, especially HIV, in addition to the general neuro imaging.

Clinical Interests

Dr Mathur reports on all aspects of brain and spine imaging, but has a particular interest in routine and advanced brain tumour imaging. He is a core member of the neuro-oncology, pituitary, skull base and neurology MDT’s. He has a subspecialist interest in ENT / head and neck imaging, is a core member of the regional Head & Neck cancer MDT and is also the radiology lead for the NSSG. In addition, Dr Mathur has a keen interest in temporal bone and paranasal sinus imaging.

Research Interests

Since 2013, Dr Mathur has been the Radiology Research Lead at Royal Preston Hospital. His most recent research covers the erector spinae muscle atrophy after minimally invasive pedicle screw fixation. Dr Mathur has also introduced advanced neuro-imaging techniques; such as MR perfusion, diffusion tensor imaging and functional MRI in brain tumour imaging at his hospital.

Summary of Publications

Dr Mathur has over 20 publications. These include peer reviewed online and journal publications related to his subspecialist interest of neuroradiology.

Teaching & Training

Dr Mathur is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Cumbria and has provided education at both under-graduate and post-graduate level; working as a formal lecturer, tutor, clinical supervisor and educational supervisor. He is currently an RCR Examiner for the DDMFR examination at the Royal College of Radiology. He is also the immediate past Prafulla Kumar Ganguli professor (2018-2020); awarded by the Royal College of Radiology to teach and train in India. Dr Mathur has organised teaching courses and has been invited as faculty to national and regional teaching courses and conferences.
