Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Baraza has undergone medico-legal training. He is registered with APIL, the National Crime Agency and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. Mr Baraza enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimants and Defendant law firms in actions relating to both personal injury and clinical negligence. His Claimant/Defendant ratio split is approximately 70/30. He can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Baraza has been a Consultant General, Colorectal and Pelvic Floor Surgeon at the Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, since 2015. He is General Surgery Lead for Enhanced Recovery and a member of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP), the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI), and The Pelvic Floor Society. In addition, he is the MFT Group Clinical Lead for Physician Associates and takes an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

Clinical Interests

Mr Baraza has a clinical interest in bowel cancer, pelvic floor pathology, proctology, minimally invasive surgery, early rectal cancer and enhanced recovery after surgery.

Research Interests

Mr Baraza has research interest in pelvic floor surgery, surgical gerontology, and surgical endoscopy.

Summary of Publications

Mr Baraza has been widely published within his field, with over 16 selected publications, 17 published abstracts, book contributions, journal reviews and book chapters. He has been invited to speak at international conferences and provided a range of lectures.

Teaching & Training

Mr Baraza is currently the Course Director for the Health Education England NW Cadaveric Simulation Course. He is also a GMC accredited trainer.
