Mr Vivak Hansrani

Mr Vivak Hansrani is a Consultant Vascular and Complex Aortic Surgeon at the University Hospitals of Liverpool NHS Foundation Trust, with his clinical practice based at Aintree Hospital and the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. He completed his clinical training in general and vascular surgery across the North West of England in 2023, and subsequently spent two years in Western Australia specialising in complex aortic and endovascular surgery.

Mr Hansrani has a strong portfolio of clinical research, with a particular interest in clinical trial development. He completed his PhD at the University of Manchester on pelvic venous incompetence in women.

Mr Hansrani’s NHS and private practice encompasses a broad range of vascular conditions, with a specialist interest in complex aortic surgery-including both aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection pathology. He is trained in both open and minimally invasive techniques, and regularly performs bypass surgery for limb preservation, endovascular revascularisation procedures, carotid surgery for stroke prevention, and varicose vein interventions.

Mr Hansrani has a strong academic background with extensive experience in clinical research. His doctoral research focused on pelvic vein incompetence, and he has since gone on to design and lead randomised controlled trials, observational studies, and meta-analyses in the field of vascular surgery. He has published his work in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and has contributed to several book chapters, reflecting his commitment to advancing clinical knowledge and improving patient outcomes. Mr Hansrani has presented his research at national and international conferences, further establishing his reputation within the vascular research community.

Mr Hansrani has extensive experience in clinical leadership and healthcare management. He has led several clinical trials and large-scale research studies, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing evidence-based practice within vascular surgery. In his clinical role, he is responsible for the day-to-day management of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centred care. His leadership capabilities have been further strengthened through formal management training, including programmes delivered by the King’s Fund and Edge Hill University, equipping him with strategic and operational skills to drive service development and innovation within the NHS.

Mr Hansrani has published extensively across a broad range of clinical disciplines, including orthopaedics, general and vascular surgery, and gynaecology. His academic work encompasses primary clinical research, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, book chapters, and editorials, reflecting the breadth and depth of his contribution to the medical literature.

Mr Hansrani is actively involved in medical education and holds an honorary academic position with the University of Manchester. He regularly teaches undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, as well as allied health professionals, delivering both clinical and academic teaching across a range of vascular topics. He has also supervised research students, supporting them through the design, execution, and publication of their work. To support his role as an educator, Mr Hansrani has undertaken specialist training in teaching and clinical supervision, further enhancing his effectiveness as a trainer and mentor within the NHS and academic settings.
