Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Bode Williams is a consultant obstetrician with more than two decades of specialist experience in obstetrics, fetal medicine and obstetric ultrasound. Since 2009 he has been a consultant at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, one of the United Kingdom’s leading tertiary maternity centres, where he routinely manages complex, high‑risk pregnancies and performs detailed fetal and placental imaging. Prior to this appointment he served as a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at Frimley Park NHS Foundation Trust (2005‑2009) and held an honorary consultant post in fetal medicine at St George’s Hospital, London (2005‑2007). Throughout his career he has built a reputation for delivering comprehensive antenatal care, supervising intrapartum management, and providing expert second‑opinion ultrasound assessments for both routine and challenging cases.

Beyond day‑to‑day clinical work, Dr Williams has become a recognised authority on the review of adverse pregnancy outcomes. From 2021 he has contributed to national maternity reviews as a member of an Independent Maternity Review Team, applying rigorous, evidence‑based analysis to evaluate patient safety, clinical standards and adherence to accepted UK practice. His contributions are noted for their balanced, objective perspective and for translating complex medical findings into clear language that is readily understood by courts, legal professionals and policy makers.

Dr Williams’ clinical interests encompass the specialist care of women with high-risk and complex pregnancies, including antenatal assessment, personalised pregnancy planning, and multidisciplinary management of maternal and fetal complications. He has extensive experience in labour and intrapartum care, fetal surveillance, and senior clinical decision-making in complex maternity cases. His specialist expertise includes advanced obstetric ultrasound, detailed fetal assessment, and placental imaging, with a particular interest in the diagnosis, risk assessment, and management of Placenta Accreta Spectrum (PAS) and other complex placental conditions.

Dr Williams also has significant experience in prenatal diagnosis and counselling, supporting women and families through complex pregnancy findings and informed decision-making. In addition, he has a strong interest in the independent review of adverse pregnancy outcomes, serious incidents, and perinatal deaths to support learning and service improvement. Alongside his clinical practice, he provides leadership in clinical governance, patient safety, audit, quality improvement, and the development and implementation of evidence-based maternity guidelines aimed at improving standards of care and outcomes for mothers and babies.

Dr Williams’ research focuses on improving the diagnosis and management of placental conditions, particularly placenta accreta spectrum (PAS). He leads a tertiary placental imaging diagnostic service and works closely with a regional multidisciplinary specialist network.
