Medico-Legal experience

Dr Escriu is registered with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), the National Crime Agency (NCA), and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. Dr Escriu enjoys a full medico-legal practice instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence cases. Dr Escriu holds weekly medico-legal clinics in Manchester, but is happy to travel in order to conduct home and prison visits. He can produce reports within 10-12 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Escriu attained his PhD in cancer biology from the University of Cambridge. Since 2016, he has practised as a Consultant Medical Oncologist, with a subspecialty in thoracic oncology at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust where he also leads the largest mutation-driven lung cancer clinic in the UK. In addition to his NHS responsibilities, he is a North West Clinical Cancer Research Network & Thoracic Oncology Lead and the Clinical Research Lead for Thoracic Oncology at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

Clinical Interests

Dr Escriu serves a centralised mutation-driven lung cancer clinic, as well as a centralised clinic of patients with thymic malignancies and mesothelioma. He also contributes to the care of patients with neuroendocrine tumours of the lung. 50% of his clinical activity is dedicated to the care of patients with wild type lung cancer (with a special interest in immunotherapy) and supporting the Acute Oncology Service delivery at the Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Research Interests

Dr Escriu has a special interest in clinical and translational research. His biological interest lies in the identification of predictive biomarkers in response to therapy within blood circulating extracellular vesicles. He is a regular reviewer for several publications (https://orcid.org/0000-0003-3638-3202). He has set up two dedicated biobanks and has led the setting-up of three investigator-led clinical trials. He is the Chief Investigator in a multitude of interventional and observational clinical trials, and member of the steering committee of a global study.

Summary of Publications

Dr Escriu is co-author in several cancer biology peer-reviewed publications on stem-cell biology, prostate cancer and immunotherapy in Nature Cell Biology, Oncotarget, Oncogene - Nature and the Journal of National Cancer Institute (JNCI). His clinical peer-reviewed publications have focused on mutation-driven lung cancer and small cell lung cancer, with a recent review in novel therapies in early-stage lung cancer. His invited contributions include an editorial on a cancer biology paper on a novel epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor.

Teaching & Training

Dr Escriu is actively involved in the teaching of registrars and associate physicians at the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and is regularly invited to lecture at regional and national oncology meetings. In addition, Dr Escriu currently leads the Thoracic Oncology Seminar Teaching Programme for the North West.
