Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Drampalos has completed multiple courses in medico-legal report working. He is happy to take instructions from both the defence and the claimant.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Drampalos gained his MD in 2003 from the University of Bologna, and later achieved his MSc and PhD, specialising in Orthopeadics. Since then, Mr Drampalos has gained vast clinical experience, training in Hospitals in both Greece and the UK. Currently, he is maintains the position of Chief Foot & Ankle Orthopaedic Consultant for NHS Forth Valley, Orthopaedic Consultant for the Circle Health Group Kings Park Hospital, and runs a general orthopaedic trauma clinic, treating a full range of orthopaedic conditions. Mr Drampalos is also an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.

Clinical Interests

While Mr Drampalos’ orthopaedic trauma practice covers all musculoskeletal injuries, his subspeciality interest is in foot and ankle surgery, including sport injuries, bunion surgery and infected metalwork. During a previous position at the Major Trauma Centre in Machester, Mr Drampalos focused on foot, ankle, and lower limb severe trauma and bone infections related to metalwork. He also treats flatfoot, high arch, forefoot deformities and Achilles tendonitis and tendon injuries using both open or minimally invasive surgery (MIS) techniques.

Research Interests

Currently, he is doing research with main interest in Foot and Ankle Pathology (use of staples in Foot and Ankle Surgery: Biomechanics and PROMS, Biomechanics of Ankle fractures and options for conservative management), Diamond-like Carbon Coatings for Biomedical Applications. During the last two years, he has been collaborating with a multidisciplinary team from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sakarya University (Turkey) and the Heriot-Watt University, UK. Mr Drampalos' MSc research focused on ‘Vertebral Fracture Assessment’; his PhD research was in ‘Vertebral Fracture Assessment on patients with Vertebrae Kyphoplasty.’

Management Experience

Mr Drampalos is currently the Chief Foot and Ankle Surgeon at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital. His previous management experience has included: BOA National Clinical Leader 1 Year Programme UK (2014), Lead Battalion Surgeon in Greek Armed Forces (2005-2006), and Orthopedic Trainee representative at the Board of the Greek College of Orthopaedic Surgeons reforming educational programme (2009-2011).

Summary of Publications

Mr Drampalos has published more than 40 articles in international peer reviewed journals, 60 podium presentations and abstracts in Congresses and two books. He is also an Editorial Board Member and Reviewer for the World Journal Orthopaedics and reviewer for three more international PubMed indexed peer reviewed journals.

Teaching & Training

Currently, Mr Drampalos is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow, Medical School since 2022. He is also the Clinical and Educational supervisor of Trainees and Junior Doctors at FVRH. From 2018-2019, taught Medical Students at the University of Manchester. He has trained people in Foot and Ankle Courses. Previously, Mr Drampalos taught orthopaedic trainees at the Greek College of Orthopaedic Surgeons (2010-2012), and taught battle resuscitation and military medicine within the Greek Armed Forces (2005-2006).
