Dr Hobson is happy to represent both Claimant and Defendant law firms in both personal injury and clinical negligence actions.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Katie Hobson Achieved her first qualification in Medical Sciences Tripos at the University of Cambridge in 1997. She went on to achieve post-graduate degrees at the University of Oxford in 2000 and the University of Cambridge in 2001. In 2004, Dr Hobson obtained her Membership with the Royal College of Physicians, and later received her fellowship in 2020. Dr Hobson has been a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Salford Royal and St Ann’s Hospice since 2012. Here, she concentrates on delivering patient-centred holistic care.

Clinical Interests

Dr Hobson has specialist interests in palliative medicine in non malignant conditions including renal failure, hepatic failure, cardiac failure, neurodegenerative conditions and trauma, as well as cancer care. She has particular interest in the early identification of patients with palliative care needs and works closely with the emergency department to ensure patients receive timely and appropriate investigations and intervention, including advance care planning. She has in interest in facilitating and managing patients’ care needs across care settings.

Research Interests

Dr Hobson has been involved in research projects, looking into palliative medicine provision for renal patients, testing workforce models for hospital palliative care teamsmarkers for early identification of patients with palliative care needs.

Management Experience

Dr Hobson has enjoyed numerous management opportunities in her posts, including Clinical Lead for Specialist Palliative Care, Chair of the Northern Care Alliance Specialist Palliative Care Strategic Group, Co-Chair of the Salford Royal End of Life Care Steering Group, Member of the Greater Manchester Strategic Clinical Network for Palliative and End of Life Care, member of the Greater Manchester SCN Workforce Steering Group and Associate Foundation Training Programme Director. She also led a successful Macmillan-funded project to develop enhanced 7-day specialist palliative care services across Salford that was subsequently commissioned substantively. Additionally, Dr Hobson has led and contributed to the development of documents and policy such as the “Principles of Care and Support for the Adult Dying Patient” (2014), the ”Greater Manchester commitments to palliative care individuals approaching or within the last year of life - What an individual with Palliative and End of Life Care needs should expect” (2019) and “The case for recruitment and retention of the Palliative Care and End of Life workforce in Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire” (2022).

Summary of Publications

Dr Hobson has contributed to multiple article and abstract publications in areas such as: Exploring the impact on patients, family carers and staff of enhanced 7-day specialist palliative care services: A mixed methods study; End of life care in COVID-19; Specialist palliative care services for patients with end-stage renal disease; Use of pathways in patients dying with advance chronic kidney disease; Project to deliver a programme and develop a framework to support the wellbeing of Foundation doctors, underpinned by the principles of Compassionate Leadership and the mental capacity act.

Teaching & Training

Dr Hobson enjoys a very active involvement in the teaching/training of junior staff, medical students, specialist nurses, allied health professionals and colleagues in other specialities. She delivers medical teaching to both under- and post- graduate students in palliative medicine and communication skills. Dr Hobson was the Associate Foundation programme director at Salford for over 10 year and now teaches a Compassionate Leadership programme regionally. Dr Hobson also supervises enhanced clinical skills training and non-medical prescribing. Since 2006, Dr Hobson has attended multiple courses in this area to further her abilities and skills.
