Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Pearce has over 20-years experience in all aspects of both non-invasive and invasive cardiac diagnostics. He is clinically proficient in providing and interpreting procedures such as resting ECG, ambulatory cardiac monitoring, echocardiography, stress echocardiography, haemodynamic assessments and monitoring during cardiac catheterisation procedures.

In addition to providing clinical leadership and expertise in all generic areas of diagnostics, Mr Pearce actively delivers weekly clinical autonomous diagnostic testing and interpretation in complex areas of cardiac diagnostics, which include specialised assessments in structural valvular heart disease and stress echocardiography for the detection of coronary artery disease and structural valvular heart disease. He also has multiple leadership roles in other tertiary units including Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital which has enabled him to have exposure to differing healthcare providers and gain knowledge of differing clinical practice between tertiary and secondary care hospital providers.

With extensive clinical experience and clinical leadership within a hospital setting, Mr Pearce has held multiple national leadership roles which include Vice President and recently President of the British Society of Echocardiography and he is a national elected member of the British Cardiac Society education committee. Mr Pearce acts as Clinical lead for NHSE workstream on Diagnostics and outpatient services and is an active member of NHSE/I Cardiac Pathway Implementation Programme board. Currently, he is the chair for the British Cardiac Society Cardiac Physiologists/Cardiac scientists Council.

Clinical Interests

Mr Pearce has a clinical interest in all areas of cardiac diagnostic testing in both non-invasive and invasive areas. Echocardiography is his specialised area of practice with specialised interests in stress echocardiography, valvular heart disease, detection of coronary heart disease.

Research Interests

Mr Pearce is actively involved in multiple research projects which include areas such as, the effect of potassium and cardiac arrhythmia post coronary artery bypass surgery. He is involved in the clinical steering committee for the British Society Echocardiography National Stress Echo Practice registry.Mr Pearce has successfully run a national core lab for analysis of echo data as part of the UK TAVI research and has been successful in being awarded a grant from the European Society Echocardiography to deliver a core lab function for the 10-year TAVI registry.

Management Experience

Mr Pearce currently manages the largest Cardiac Diagnostic Unit in the UK across five sites. Has held the position of Consultant Cardiac Scientist at the Manchester University Foundation Trust in 2013, prior to this he held the role as Lead Cardiac Physiologist at the Liverpool Heart and Chest hospital.Manchester University Foundation Trust has circa .120 cardiac scientists/physiologists who deliver the full spectrum of cardiac diagnostic testing, Mr Pearce is clinically and professionally responsible for this group and whilst there is a cascade system of management, as the head of service he is responsible for ensuring the clinical standards of all services delivered within his unit.Mr Pearce is currently responsible for the clinical leadership/management of the largest UK cardiac diagnostic services; Manchester Foundation Trust has circa. 120 clinical physiologists/scientists who provide a full spectrum of cardiac diagnostic testing at tertiary level.
