Professor Patel has been undertaking medico-legal work for 12 years and produces around 80-90 reports a year. He specialises in trauma, hip pathology, knee pathology, and ACL reconstruction. Professor Patel is happy to be instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence actions.

Professor Patel completed his specialist Registrar Rotation in Trauma and Orthopaedics with North Western Deanery, rotating through various hospitals in Preston, Chorley, Bolton, Stockport, Blackburn, Burnley and Wrightington. He obtained fellowship experience as a lower limb arthroplasty fellow in one of the most prestigious Orthopaedic Hospitals in the country (Wrightington Hospital). The fellowship and the previous training have given him an excellent experience in a wide range of hip and knee surgery including complex revision arthroplasty. Professor Patel has performed more than 2000 hip and knee replacements including complex revision surgery.

Professor Patel has a specialist interest in hip replacement, knee replacement, unicompartmental knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, revision hip and knee surgery, and forefoot surgery. He also has special interest in management of sports injuries including arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, management of young adult hip problems, minimally invasive surgery and complex hip and knee arthroplasty.

Professor Patel’s research interests lie within revision hip surgery, total hip replacements, forefoot surgery, knee replacements along with orthopaedic and trauma related topics.

Professor Patel has published widely on various topics related to trauma and orthopaedics including knee arthroplasty, and forefoot surgery. He has numerous presentations at national and international level. Professor Patel has also published a book.

Professor Patel is an Honorary Professor with University of Cumbria and an Honorary Senior Clinical Professor with Edge Hill University, regularly teaching regional and national training courses. He often attends conferences and collaborates with surgeons from around the world.
