Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Dr Younis has been an expert witness in endocrinology, diabetes and general internal medicine for a number of years. He has undergone his expert witness training and is registered with APIL, AVmA and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. He enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimants and Defendants law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence actions. Dr Younis holds weekly medico-legal clinics in Manchester but is happy to travel in order to conduct home and prison visits. His claimant/defendant ratio split is approximately 70/30 and he can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Younis has been a Consultant Endocrinologist, Diabetologist, General (Internal) & Acute Physician for over 15-years. He is the Clinical Lead for endocrinology and diabetes at the Wythenshawe Hospital; part of the University of Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.

Clinical Interests

Dr Younis specialises in all aspects of endocrinology (pituitary, adrenal, thyroid, calcium, reproductive disorders), all aspects of diabetes care (diagnosis, management and complications), general medicine, diabetic foot disease, neuropathy, obesity and dyslipidaemia.

Research Interests

Dr Younis has published widely in the field of diabetic retinopathy screening. In fact, his research has led to a change in the guidance on diabetic retinal screening in the UK. He has also developed current research interests in dyslipidaemia and vascular disease and has supervised MD and PhD students. He is currently a Principal Investigator/Sub-Investigator in clinical trials involving lipid disorders, diabetes and therapies for diabetic foot complications.

Management Experience

Training Programme Director in Diabetes and Endocrinology North Western Deanery. Chairman of STSC North Western Deanery in Endocrinology and Diabetes. Editorial Board of the Diabetic Medicine Journal. Member of the Greater Manchester Diabetes Strategy Group.

Teaching & Training

Dr Younis has over 20 years of teaching experience; he has developed the North Western Cardiovascular/Diabetes Regional Update Course and the SCE for specialist trainees. He leads the training programme for higher specialist registrars and is a popular teacher. He is a Postgraduate Tutor for the Cardiff Diabetes Diploma Course. Dr Younis is regularly invited to give lectures at national and international meetings on novel therapeutics in diabetes and on complications of diabetes.
