Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Dr Al-Sayed has been providing medico-legal advice for a number of years. He has undergone his expert witness training . He has also completed an MA in Healthcare Law and Bioethics at the University of Manchester. Dr Al-Sayed is registered with APIL, AvMA, National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. He enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimant and Defendant law firms in actions relating to personal injury and clinical negligence. He has attended 23 Coroner's inquests. Dr Al-Sayed holds weekly medico-legal clinics in Manchester, but is happy to conduct home and prison visits. He can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Al-Sayed specialises in internal medicine, particularly the emergency aspects and its interface with critical care medicine. Dr Al-Sayed currently holds the post of Consultant in Acute Medicine with a renal subspecialty at the Wythenshawe Hospital, part of the Manchester University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Al-Sayed is also an Honorary Consultant in Acute Medicine with a renal subspecialty at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust where he is also the Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Lead.

Clinical Interests

Dr Al-Sayed has an interest in renal disorders and acute kidney injury in particular, risk recognition, early detection and intervention in both oncology and non-oncology patients. He has a further interest in electrolyte and acid base disturbances, particularly in patients receiving systemic anticancer chemotherapy.

Summary of Publications

Dr Al-Sayed's main research interests are in AKI in particular looking at the development of biomarkers in the cancer treated population. He has done work with the Head & Neck Cancer Group at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust on ways to mitigate the development of AKI in patients treated with cisplatin chemotherapy and also who develop radiation induced mucositis.

Teaching & Training

Dr Al-Sayed is a Royal College of Physicians (RCOP) Tutor at the Wythenshawe Hospital and previous Lead for final year students. He has both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training commitments.
