McCollum Consultants is delighted to welcome Ms Maria McNally to our network of expert witnesses. Ms McNally is a highly experienced Consultant Orthodontist with a distinguished clinical and academic career spanning over two decades. Her expertise lies in managing complex orthodontic and interdisciplinary dental cases across both NHS and private sectors.
A Specialist in Advanced Orthodontic Treatment and Multidisciplinary Care
Ms McNally qualified as a dentist in 1995 and completed her specialist orthodontic training in 2003. She was appointed as a Consultant Orthodontist in 2008 and has since delivered a broad spectrum of orthodontic care in primary, secondary, and private settings. Her clinical practice includes treatment of impacted teeth, hypodontia, jaw surgery cases, and complex bite correction using fixed appliances and advanced aligner systems such as Invisalign and Angel Aligners.
With substantial experience in hospital-based multidisciplinary teams, Ms McNally has played a key role in the integration of orthodontic care with restorative and surgical specialties. Her interests include the strategic use of Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) to optimise treatment outcomes in biomechanically complex cases.
Leadership, Management, and Service Development
From 2011 to 2019, Ms McNally served as Lead Orthodontic Consultant at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, where she led service delivery and multidisciplinary team collaboration. Since 2017, she has also been a partner in a dental practice, combining clinical responsibilities with strategic oversight, team leadership, and the management of NHS and private care services.
Academic Contributions and Publications
Ms McNally is actively involved in orthodontic research and professional guidance. Her publications include a randomised controlled trial on crossbite correction, a review of orthodontic retention protocols, and an ethics-focused article for the British Orthodontic Society titled “Communication is the Key to Success.” These works reflect her commitment to evidence-based practice and high standards of professional conduct.
Teaching, Training, and Mentorship
A dedicated educator, Ms McNally is an Honorary Consultant at the University of Manchester, contributing to postgraduate training for the Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth). She has trained numerous orthodontic registrars and therapists, several of whom have received national recognition for their clinical achievements. Her educator qualifications include the West Midlands “Training the Trainers” programme, the Royal College of Surgeons Appraisal Course, and the Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (in progress). She also serves as an Invisalign Mentor, supporting practitioners in aligner therapy planning and case development.
Medico-Legal and Expert Witness Services
Ms McNally has completed Bond Solon training and holds the Cardiff University Expert Witness Certificate. She accepts instructions from both Claimant and Defendant law firms, with expertise in clinical negligence and personal injury claims related to:

Memberships and Professional Recognition
Ms McNally is listed on the General Dental Council Specialist Register for Orthodontics and holds membership in several key professional bodies, including:

She also serves as an Examiner for the Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
