McCollum Consultants is pleased to welcome Dr Anirudh Rao to our panel of medico-legal experts.
Dr Rao is a Consultant Nephrologist at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he provides specialist care across the full spectrum of kidney disease, including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, dialysis, glomerulonephritis, vasculitis and renal transplantation. He has been on the consultant clinical roster at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital since June 2018 and is recognised for his expertise in complex renal and transplant medicine.
Dr Rao accepts instructions from both claimant and defendant solicitors in personal injury and clinical negligence matters. He provides clear, evidence-based medico-legal reports across the field of nephrology and has also contributed to coronial investigations.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Rao leads the transplant service, overseeing the long-term management of kidney transplant recipients and the acute care of patients with transplant-related complications. His work includes the management of immunosuppression, post-operative complications, delayed graft function and renal infections in highly complex patients.
Dr Rao is also actively involved in research and quality improvement within renal medicine. His academic interests focus on chronic kidney disease, dialysis outcomes, cardiovascular risk and transplantation, with particular expertise in translational research, machine learning risk prediction and biomarker development. He completed his PhD at the University of Bristol in 2019.
In addition to his research and clinical commitments, Dr Rao holds several regional and national leadership roles in nephrology, including Research Delivery Network Northwest Specialty Lead for Nephrology. He is committed to improving patient safety, advancing renal care pathways and supporting education and training within the specialty.
