The conference, for clinical negligence experts, will focus on neurology and neurosurgery, providing both medical and legal professionals with updates on key issues, developments, and policies in clinical negligence and medical law.

Thursday 19th March
Neurological Conditions in A&E

Dr Lesley Watson, Consultant in Emergency Medicine, will present on:

  • Neurological conditions commonly seen in A&E

  • What constitutes reasonable care for an A&E doctor when managing neurological conditions

  • Common areas of negligence, including when to scan

  • Best practices for referral and investigation

Friday 20th March
Plenary Address: Hidden Failures in Managing Cauda Equina Syndrome

Mr Naveed Yasin, Consultant in Complex Spine Surgery, and Mr Ray Ross, Consultant Spinal Surgeon, will deliver a plenary session covering:

  • Presentation and diagnosis of Cauda Equina

  • Delay in diagnosis and causation

  • Surgical management

  • The impact of negligent delay on patient recovery

  • Lessons not being learnt from past cases

  • Case studies highlighting clinical pitfalls

In the afternoon, Dr Stephen Lowis, Consultant in Paediatric & Adolescent Oncology, will present a lecture on ‘Brain Tumours’, discussing:

  • Tumour types and the impact of delayed referral on diagnosis and long-term prognosis

  • Treatment options, clinical trials, and life after brain injury

  • Surgical interventions, common negligence errors, and potential complications
