Medico-Legal experience

He has published over 15 academic papers on thematic analysis of clinical negligence claims across a range of medical specialities including ENT and is the author of 'Learning from Ligation Claims': a national guide written in collaboration with NHS Resolution. (Link on Request)

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Navaratnam is a Consultant Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Surgeon at the Royal National ENT Hospital and University College London Hospital (UCLH). He also holds an honorary consultant position at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Mr Navaratnam runs a nationally-referring tertiary rhinology NHS practice, offering dedicated adult rhinology clinics for a range of nasal conditions including nasal blockage, allergy, and sinus disease. He collaborates as part of a multidisciplinary team with specialists in allergy, respiratory medicine, and rheumatology.

Furthermore, Mr Navaratnam is a key member of the Craniofacial team at UCLH, working alongside Ophthalmologists, Neurosurgeons, and Maxillo-Facial and Plastic surgeons to manage complex craniofacial presentations, including patients with cleft lip/palate and congenital syndromes. He also maintains a specialist clinic at Great Ormond Street Hospital focused on the diagnosis and treatment of nasal problems in children.

Clinical Interests

Mr Navaratnam has a subspeciality interest in rhinology and facial plastic surgery with particular expertise in septorhinoplasty and nose reshaping surgery.

Research Interests

Mr Navaratnam’s research interests encompass a range of areas focused on improving patient care and surgical outcomes. He evaluates the results of sinonasal surgery using large national datasets, and is dedicated to enhancing patient education through shared decision-making. His research also includes learning from clinical negligence claims in surgery and exploring the adoption of innovation in surgical practice. Currently, he is a co-investigator on a clinical trial exploring the use of biologics in the treatment of sinonasal disease.

Management Experience

Mr Navaratnam holds a national role as a National Clinical Advisor in ENT for the Getting it Right First Time Program, NHS England. He also actively contributes to the direction of the field as a member of the national council for the British Rhinology Society, which operates under the umbrella of ENT UK.

Teaching & Training

Mr Navaratnam is deeply committed to training the next generation of surgeons. He regularly volunteers to speak to schoolchildren about careers in medicine, and provides mentorship to both medical students and junior doctors. As a clinical supervisor for higher surgical trainees in ENT, he plays a key role in their professional development. Furthermore, Mr Navaratnam frequently teaches on local and national instructional ENT courses and is a sought-after invited speaker at international conferences.
