Clinical Practice & Experience
Professor Perry is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and a Consultant Children’s Orthopaedic Surgeon at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. Professor Perry trained in Liverpool and Warwick, before completing a fellowship at SickKids Hospital, Toronto, Canada. He then joined the University of Oxford as an Associated Professor and fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford, become moving back to Liverpool as the Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery. Professor Perry is the first orthopaedic surgeon to be awarded a prestigious NIHR Research Professorship award from the National Institute for Health Research.
Clinical Interests
Professor Perry has clinical interests in hip disease and trauma with key interests in Perthes’ disease, Slipped Epiphysis and Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH). He a national clinical advisor for hip screening to the NHS England antenatal and newborn programme advisory group.
Management Experience
Professor Perry leads a large group of clinical and research staff, delivering the largest portfolio of children’s orthopaedic surgery worldwide.
Research Interests
Professor Perry leads a large portfolio of clinical research in children’s trauma, orthopaedics and emergencies – www.TOTSresearch.org. The research is international, with collaborating centres throughout the UK, Australia, New Zealand, the US and Canada.
Summary of Publications
Professor Perry has published over 130 research papers. He is one of a handful of surgeons to have published studies in world-leading journals such as the Lancet, JAMA, the BMJ, which have changed clinical practice internationally.
Teaching & Training
Professor Perry is a Professor at the University of Liverpool. He supervises PhD students at the University of Liverpool and University of Oxford, and regularly contributes to teaching programmes around the world.

Medico-Legal experience
Professor Perry is happy to be instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in clinical negligence actions. He has attended the Bond Solon “Excellence in Written Evidence” course. He is keen to take instructions in negligence related to children’s orthopaedic disease, particularly related to the diagnosis of hip dysplasia, slipped upper (capital) femoral epiphysis (SUFE or SCFE) and the diagnosis/treatment of trauma or musculoskeletal infection.
