Clinical Practice & Experience

Ms McNally is a highly experienced Consultant and Specialist Orthodontist with a distinguished clinical career spanning over two decades. She qualified as a dentist in 1995, completed specialist orthodontic training in 2003, and was appointed as a Consultant Orthodontist in 2008.

Her practice encompasses a broad spectrum of orthodontic care across multiple clinical environments. She has substantial experience within secondary care hospital services, where she manages complex multidisciplinary cases, mentors trainees, and contributes to service development. In addition to her hospital role, Ms McNally delivers high-quality orthodontic care in private practice, offering a range of advanced treatments tailored to individual patient needs.

Ms McNally also works within NHS primary care settings, delivering orthodontic services under an NHS contract. Her ability to navigate and adapt to diverse clinical settings highlights her comprehensive expertise and commitment to accessible, patient-centred care.

Clinical Interests

Ms McNally has a strong clinical interest in interdisciplinary dental cases, particularly those involving orthognathic surgery, hypodontia, and complex restorative treatments. She is experienced in managing comprehensive treatment plans that integrate multiple specialties to achieve optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes. Her expertise includes the use of advanced aligner systems such as Invisalign and Angel Aligners to manage a range of orthodontic cases. In addition, she has a keen interest in the placement and use of Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs), which she incorporates into treatment planning to enhance biomechanical control and improve results in challenging orthodontic scenarios.

Management Experience

Ms McNally has significant leadership and management experience, having served as Lead Orthodontic Consultant at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust from 2011 to 2019, where she oversaw orthodontic services and led a multidisciplinary team. Since 2017, she has also been a partner in a dental practice, combining clinical work with responsibilities in business strategy, team management, and service delivery across both NHS and private sectors.

Summary of Publications

Ms McNally has contributed to the orthodontic literature with publications focused on clinical effectiveness and professional practice. Her research includes a randomised controlled trial comparing the quad helix and expansion arch appliances for crossbite correction, published in the Journal of Orthodontics. She has also authored a review on orthodontic retention protocols, exploring the rationale, timing, and methods of retention in Dental Update. In addition, she contributed to a professional guidance article titled "Communication is the Key to Success" for the British Orthodontic Society Ethics Committee, highlighting the importance of clear, ethical communication in clinical practice.

Teaching & Training

Ms McNallyv has extensive experience in orthodontic education and training across multiple levels. She is currently an Honorary Consultant at the University of Manchester, contributing to the Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) postgraduate training programme. Over the years, she has taught and supervised orthodontic registrars, with her most recent trainee winning a British Orthodontic Society prize for cases she treatment planned and closely supervised. She has also successfully trained orthodontic therapists, both of whom achieved high marks in their final examinations, and she has served as an educational supervisor for an overseas registrar, providing regular teaching, assessment, and progress monitoring.Ms McNally has completed formal educator training, including the West Midlands "Training the Trainers" course, the Royal College of Surgeons Appraisal course, and the first module of the Postgraduate Medical Education certificate at Edge Hill University. Since June 2023, she has also worked as an Invisalign Mentor, where she teaches aligner therapy, reviews cases, and supports less experienced providers in developing their orthodontic skills.
