Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Dr Soremekun acts as an expert witness for both claimants and defendants in personal‑injury and clinical‑negligence cases involving traumatic brain injury, brain tumours, stroke, haemorrhage, brain infections/autoimmune disorders and dementia. She also testifies on mental‑capacity, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the application of the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Soremekun is a Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and Consultant Clinical Psychologist with nearly two decades of specialist experience within NHS and independent neurorehabilitation services in London. Her clinical practice centres on the assessment and treatment of adults who have sustained traumatic brain injury (TBI), acquired brain injury (ABI), and a range of neurological conditions, including disorders of consciousness, post‑traumatic amnesia, and mild to severe cognitive, behavioural, and emotional impairments. She is recognised for delivering complex neuropsychological assessments and formulations that integrate functional, psychological, and systemic factors.

Dr Soremekun also has substantial expertise in mental capacity assessments, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, safeguarding procedures, and Court of Protection matters, routinely providing expert opinions on the Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act and relevant case law. In addition, she advises on vocational rehabilitation and workplace adjustments following neurological injury and has led service development, pathway design, clinical governance, audit, and evaluation activities in line with NICE and NHS frameworks.

Clinical Interests

Dr Soremekun’s principal clinical interests include acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury, functional neurological disorders, neurodegenerative conditions, and comprehensive neurorehabilitation that addresses cognitive, emotional, behavioural, and systemic dimensions. She also maintains a focused interest in the application of the Mental Capacity Act within neurorehabilitation contexts.

Research Interests

Her research interests mirror her clinical focus and encompass acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury, functional neurological disorders, neurodegenerative conditions, and neurorehabilitation (cognitive, emotional, behavioural, systemic). She is also interested in the Mental Capacity Act and psychiatric epidemiology.

Management Experience

Dr Soremekun has occupied senior clinical and leadership roles across Level 1 and Level 2 inpatient neurorehabilitation services, acute and post‑acute hospital settings, and community and outpatient pathways. She has been responsible for the development and leadership of neuropsychology services within large NHS Trusts and specialist neurorehabilitation centres, including the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, The Royal Free NHS Trust, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, and Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre. Her management portfolio encompasses the supervision and oversight of qualified psychologists, trainees, and multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams.

Teaching & Training

Holding a post‑16 teaching qualification, Dr Soremekun has lectured on undergraduate medical programmes at Imperial College London and delivered postgraduate neuroscience and neuropsychology courses at Birkbeck, University of London. She also provides specialist training and reflective practice sessions for multidisciplinary teams.
