Medico-Legal experience

Mr Harley has undertaken Bond Solon medico-legal training and enjoys receiving instructions from both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence cases.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Harley has been practicing in the field of plastic surgery since 2002, completing specialist training in 2012. Following training, he worked as a locum Consultant Plastic Surgeon within the NHS for three years. Since 2015, he has maintained an independent plastic surgery practice with a dual focus on cosmetic and hand surgery. He has extensive experience across a broad spectrum of plastic surgery, including cosmetic procedures, hand surgery, scar revision, and the treatment of skin lesions. Throughout his career, he has performed over 1000 cosmetic surgery operations and 4000 hand surgery operations. His hand surgery practice primarily involves elective cases subcontracted by the NHS, while cosmetic surgery patients are self-funded.

Clinical Interests

Mr Harley maintains a comprehensive interest in all aspects of cosmetic surgery, with particular expertise in breast surgery – including breast implant procedures, reductions, and lifts – as well as abdominoplasty, liposuction, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), facelifts, and brow lifts. He also specialises in hand surgery, treating conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, thumb arthritis (often addressed with trapeziectomy), and Dupuytren’s disease, alongside other hand and wrist conditions.

Research Interests

Mr Harley maintains active research interests in several areas, including the outcomes of trapeziectomy procedures and the management of multiple synchronous hand conditions.

Management Experience

Mr Harley demonstrates significant leadership and management experience within the medical field. He has experience running his own independent practice. Furthermore, he has actively participated in governance and safety committees at both the McIndoe Centre and Epsomedical, including serving on the Medical Appointments Committee, Clinical Governance Committee, and Plastic Surgery User Group. He has also held the position of Chairperson for the Plastic Surgery Complications and Audit Committee.

Mr Harley has an extensive portfolio of publications in hand, plastic, and reconstructive surgery. His research includes the development of innovative surgical techniques, cost-effective solutions for managing operative hardware, and imaging-based studies on anatomy and surgical planning. He has also reported on rare conditions, unusual clinical presentations, and perioperative challenges, reflecting a broad interest in advancing both technical practice and patient care. Teaching & Training

Mr Harley is committed to the training and development of future plastic surgeons. He currently serves as a Clinical Supervisor for Cosmetic Surgery Trainees at the McIndoe Centre. Additionally, he was a Convenor and Deputy Convenor for the Royal College of Surgeons Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Cadaveric Training Course from 2010 to 2014.
