Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Sarah Ibitoye is a Consultant Acute Medicine Specialist with additional expertise in Perioperative Medicine. She has been working at North Bristol NHS Trust since 2022, providing senior leadership and consultant-delivered care within acute and perioperative clinical services.

She graduated in Medicine from the University of Manchester in 2009 and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in Tropical and Infectious Diseases at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in 2014. Her clinical training and subsequent consultant practice have been centred on the assessment and management of acutely unwell medical patients, with a strong focus on perioperative optimisation and multidisciplinary inpatient care.

Clinical Interests

Dr Ibitoye has a broad clinical interest in acute and perioperative medical care, with a particular focus on the management of medically complex patients requiring urgent assessment, investigation, and treatment. She works across the Acute Medical Unit, Enhanced Care Unit, and Medical Same Day Emergency Care services, delivering consultant-led care for patients presenting with a wide range of acute medical conditions.

She also has a specialist interest in Geriatric Trauma and Surgical Liaison, ensuring equitable access to medical expertise for patients admitted under surgical teams. In this role, she supports perioperative decision-making, contributes to preoperative optimisation, and manages postoperative medical complications, working closely with surgical colleagues to improve patient outcomes.

Management Experience

Dr Ibitoye is the Clinical Lead for Medical Same Day Emergency Care at North Bristol NHS Trust. In this role, she provides clinical leadership for service development, oversees the design and implementation of referral pathways, and supports the coordination of multidisciplinary team working within urgent care services.

Research Interests

Dr Ibitoye has an established research portfolio focused on geriatric trauma, frailty, and outcomes following in-hospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Her research demonstrating an association between geriatrician review and reduced mortality in geriatric trauma contributed to the development of a nationally pioneering geriatric trauma ward, promoting integrated physician–surgeon collaborative care models.

Dr Ibitoye has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Teaching & Training

Dr Ibitoye is an educational and clinical supervisor for internal medicine trainees and contributes regularly to local and regional teaching programmes. She has also presented as a guest speaker at national and international conferences, with academic contributions spanning perioperative medicine, postoperative delirium, and geriatric trauma.
