Medico-Legal experience

Mr Carr has been providing medico-legal advice for a number of years. He has undergone his expert witness training. Mr Carr is registered with APIL, AvMA, National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. He enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimant and Defendant law firms in actions relating to both personal injury and clinical negligence. His Claimant/Defendant ratio split is approximately 50/50. Mr Carr holds weekly medico-legal clinics in Sheffield and he can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Simon Carr has been a Consultant Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) Surgeon at the Sheffield Children’s Hospital, the Bradford Royal Infirmary and the Royal Hallamshire Hospital since June 2018. He has a tertiary adult and paediatric ENT practice, focusing primarily on otology, neuro-otology, hearing implantation including cochlear implantation and lateral skull base surgery.

Clinical Interests

Mr Carr is interested in all aspects of ear, nose and throat surgery with a recognised area of specialism in paediatric and adult otology, including congenital and acquired hearing loss, hearing implantation, chronic ear disease, trauma, industrial deafness, tinnitus and balance.

Summary of Publications

Mr Carr has published 40 peer-reviewed papers and 10 book chapters and is regularly invited to present at national and international level. He is a manuscript reviewer for a number of journals including Laryngoscope, Otology & Neurotology, Acta Oto-Laryngologica, and European Archives of Oto-Rhinolaryngology. In addition to this, he is also a book reviewer for ENT & Audiology News.

Teaching & Training

Mr Carr is a regular faculty member on regional temporal bone courses as well as FRCS revision courses.

Neurotology and Lateral Skull Base Fellowship with Professor John Rutka, Toronto General Hospital.

Paediatric ENT and cochlear implantation Fellowship with Professor Blake Papsin at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
