Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Joshi has been acting as an expert witness for 4 years and has undergone expert witness training. He has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Law with the Northumbria University Law School as well as an LL.B with Honors at Nottingham Law School. Mr Joshi enjoys a full medico-legal practice instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence cases and has given evidence in court. He has recently joined the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service working with the GMC's fitness to practice tribunal as a panel member.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Joshi was appointed as a Consultant in Thoracic Surgery at Wythenshawe Hospital; part of the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) in 2018. He is an expert in minimally invasive surgery and applications of new technology. He has training experience in both the USA and Canada. Mr Joshi completed a two-year advanced surgical fellowship at the prestigious Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA as well as a medical observership at the University of Toronto and a robotic / minimally invasive fellowship at the James Cooke University Hospital prior to being appointed as a Consultant.

Clinical Interests

Mr Joshi’s clinical focus is in minimally invasive surgery (which include VATS lobectomy and robotics) as well as general thoracic surgical oncology. He also treats patients who require pleural surgery (including effusions, empyema and pneumothorax), thymic surgery, diaphragm palsy and hernia, chest wall tumour resection and reconstruction, lung volume reduction, airway and tracheal procedures as well as emergency thoracic surgery; including chest wall trauma. Mr Joshi has also acquired experience in upper gastrointestinal surgery, mesothelioma and extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) as part of his extensive training background. He leads service developments specifically in high-risk lung cancer, sarcoma and lung volume reduction at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Summary of Publications

Mr Joshi regularly undertakes clinical research and has published manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals as well as book chapters. He has over 30 publications in cardiothoracic surgery on topics such as lung cancer, pneumothorax, minimally invasive techniques (VATS), pleural malignancy, pneumothorax, thymic surgery, ECMO, robotics, diaphragmatic hernia, wound infections, trauma, airway intervention and complications following thoracic surgery.

Teaching & Training

Mr Joshi frequently presents his research at professional conferences and has also been invited to give talks as an expert in minimally invasive surgery, both nationally and internationally. He has mentored both regional and international medical students and supervises junior doctors on a regular basis. He has organised regional scientific meetings and conferences.
