Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Chellam is registered with APIL, National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. He is happy to represent both Claimant and Defendant law firms in both personal injury and clinical negligence actions. Mr Chellam can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Chellam qualified from the University of Liverpool in 2005 and went on to complete his foundation programme and Core Surgical Training in Merseyside. He received his higher orthopaedic training in the Yorkshire Deanery and undertook a post CCT fellowship in foot and ankle surgery in Liverpool followed by a further fellowship in major trauma and pelvic surgery in Leeds. He currently holds the position of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Manchester Foundation Trust, specialising in foot and ankle surgery, major trauma and complex trauma, and ortho-plastic trauma and reconstruction.

Clinical Interests

Mr Chellam has clinical interests in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery and trauma. He enjoys the variety of work in foot and ankle and trauma surgery and the challenge of finding bespoke solutions for individual patients as well as the complexities of balancing early definitive care with staged reconstruction and interdisciplinary working. He has an interest in the fields of biomaterials, imaging modalities and stem cell technologies that are all making a large impact in the speciality.

Research Interests

Mr Chellam stays up to date with the latest research and publications in his fields of interest and has recruited patients into several multi-centre national, NIHR approved trials including the PINS and UKSTAR trials.

Management Experience

Mr Chellam has held a number of management roles during his training, most notably a rota management role for the major trauma centre in Leeds which involved managing the clinical duties of around 80 staff in around 800 clinical sessions each week. As a consultant he has been involved in writing high-level incident reports for the trust’s governance team and he has ongoing informal involvement in the development of the Major Trauma and Orthoplastic services.

Teaching & Training

Mr Chellam is regularly involved in teaching and training of students, junior and senior surgical trainees, as well as consultant colleagues. He is a regular contributor to the Northwest Deanery Orthopaedic Training Programme and has participated as faculty on specialist foot and ankle, and trauma themed practical courses. He regularly accommodates students in his elective and trauma clinics.
