Medico-Legal Experience
Mr Shah has been providing medico-legal advice for a number of years. He has undergone his expert witness training. He is registered with APIL, AvMA, National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. Mr Shah enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimant and Defendant law firms in actions relating to personal injury and clinical negligence. Mr Shah holds weekly medico-legal clinics in London, but is happy to travel in order to conduct home and prison visits. His Claimant/Defendant ratio split is approximately 60/40 and he can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.
Clinical Practice & Experience
Mr Shah has been a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at Guy’s and St. Thomas’s Hospital for eight years where he is also the Clinical Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery. In addition to dealing with elective orthopaedic procedures of the lower limbs, hip and knee he also treats sports injuries and trauma patients and provides a general on-call emergency service. Mr Shah has led the development of the enhanced recovery programme at Guy’s and St. Thomas’s Hospital which has won national recognition; he has been recognised with Certificates of Clinical Excellence for the past four years.
Clinical Interests
Mr Shah specialises in hip and knee surgery, with a particular interest in hip and knee arthroplasty and revision surgery, He also has a special interest in sports injuries, trauma patients, ongoing pain, fracture treatment, return to activities, nerve injuries during surgery and infection after surgery.
Summary of Publications
Mr Shah has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and is regularly invited to lecture at national and international conferences. He won the Culyer Scholarship, awarded as Research Fellow at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore, undertaking work in the use of Stem Cells, and is currently researching potential uses. He is on the Editorial Review Boards of Hip International and the Bone & Joint Newsletter, and the Editorial Boards of the JBJS American Hip Newsletter, JBJS American Knee Newsletter and Arthroplasty Today.
Teaching & Training
Mr Shah is a Senior Lecturer at King’s College London. He is responsible for the training and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students in the field of orthopaedics and trauma surgery. Mr Shah is currently Clinical Lead at the Royal College of Surgeons, working to advance surgical practice globally through the International Surgical Training Programme. He has been recognised as one of the Next Generation Capital Leaders by the London Leadership Academy and he continues to be involved in the work nationally and internationally.
