McCollum Consultants is pleased to welcome Mr Stuart Grant to our network of expert witnesses. A highly experienced Consultant Cardiac & Aortic Surgeon, Mr Grant brings extensive expertise in complex cardiac and aortic surgery, clinical risk assessment, and medico-legal reporting.
A Leading Expert in Cardiac & Aortic Surgery
Mr Grant has been a Consultant Cardiac & Aortic Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, based at Wythenshawe Hospital, since 2018. He also holds the position of Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Manchester.
His training in cardiothoracic surgery was completed across the North West of England, followed by a prestigious post-CCT fellowship in advanced aortic surgery and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) at Toronto General Hospital. Mr Grant was awarded a PhD from the University of Manchester in 2013, focussing on clinical prediction models in cardiovascular surgery.
With specialist expertise in aortic aneurysm and dissection surgery, heart valve repair and replacement, coronary artery bypass surgery, and thoracic endovascular aortic procedures, Mr Grant is also experienced in managing cardiothoracic trauma cases.
Medico-Legal and Expert Witness Experience
Mr Grant accepts medico-legal instructions from both claimant and defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence cases. His expertise in clinical risk, cardiac surgery, and aortic disease allows him to provide in-depth analysis and expert testimony for legal proceedings.
Research and Teaching Contributions
As a dedicated researcher, Mr Grant applies big data and advanced analytics to enhance clinical outcomes for patients. He has published widely on risk prediction models, clinical outcome analyses, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and large-scale clinical registry data. His contributions include over 100 publications, with more than 80 peer-reviewed articles.
In addition to his clinical and research commitments, Mr Grant is an experienced educator. He is actively involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervises PhD and MD research students, and has served as a faculty member for multiple surgical skills courses.

Mr Grant’s contributions to cardiothoracic surgery have earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery Ethicon Travelling Fellowship in 2021. He is an active member of several professional organisations, including:
