McCollum Consultants expert witness Mr Michael Magro, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, will be speaking at the Future of SSI Prevention Conference 2026 in London on Friday 9^th October.

The multidisciplinary conference brings together surgeons, infection prevention teams, tissue viability nurses, researchers and industry experts to explore the future of surgical site infection (SSI) prevention, from emerging innovations and digital follow-up to real-world implementation and the wider economic impact of SSI.

Mr Magro is Labour Ward and Maternity HDU Lead at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, one of the busiest maternity units in the country. He has presented internationally on his work reducing surgical site infections after caesarean section, which achieved a 38% reduction in SSI rates, a 31% reduction in readmissions and a 30% reduction in antibiotic use. This work won the Most Effective Contribution to Patient Safety award at the HSJ Partnership Awards 2023.

Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Magro has extensive medico-legal and governance experience. He co-led the governance chapters of both independent Ockenden maternity reviews and authored NHS Resolution’s national review, Five Years of Cerebral Palsy Claims.
