Medico-Legal experience

Dr Kosmidis is registered with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), the National Crime Agency (NCA), and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. He is happy to be instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence cases. Dr Kosmidis can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required. Dr Kosmidis has undergone expert witness training. Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Kosmidis completed his specialty training in internal medicine at the University of Athens, Greece in 2006 and in infectious diseases at the Wayne State University, Detroit, USA in 2010. Since 2014, he has practised as a Consultant in Infectious Diseases at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust where his clinical duties include the management of patients with all forms of infection, a weekly Aspergillosis Clinic, and infection advice for patients undergoing transplantation.

Clinical Interests

Dr Kosmidis is Clinical Director of the National Aspergillosis Centre, hosted in the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. Dr Kosmidis sees a large number of patients with all manifestations of the fungal infection aspergillosis (invasive aspergillosis, chronic pulmonary aspergillosis, allergic aspergillosis) in weekly outpatient clinics and inpatient ward rounds. He regularly provides advice nationwide to clinicians referring patients to the National Aspergillosis Centre. He also regularly sees patients undergoing transplantation who present with infection issues.

Research Interests

Dr Kosmidis attained his PhD on resistance in gram negative bacteria in 2006 from the University of Athens. He subsequently undertook research on efflux-mediated resistance in the gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus Aureus during his Infectious Diseases Fellowship in the USA. His active research interests include all aspects of fungal disease, including pathogenesis of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis, role of aspergillus in chronic lung disease, and immunotherapy of aspergillosis.

Management Experience

In 2016 Dr Kosmidis was involved in the development and initiation of a Travel Clinic (2016) and between 2016-2018 was involved in the development of the monthly Bone Infection Multidisciplinary Team at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He has also been the Tuberculosis Clinical Lead (2016-2018), Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy Lead (2017-2018), and an Antimicrobial Committee Member (2017-2018) at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

Summary of Publications

Dr Kosmidis has more than 80 publications and more than 4500 citations in peer-reviewed journals in the field of infectious diseases, particularly fungal disease, antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial chemotherapy. He is often invited to speak nationally and internationally at conferences of learned societies.

Teaching & Training

Dr Kosmidis is actively involved in the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students at the University of Manchester where he is a Senior Lecturer. He is an Academic Advisor for Year 1 and 2 medical students at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
