Laparoscopy, also known as "keyhole surgery", is a type of minimally-invasive surgery to the abdominal or pelvic cavity. As laparoscopy avoids making large incisions, it is associated with a quicker recovery time, a shorter hospital stay, less scarring, and reduced post-operative pain/bleeding. A laparoscopic approach is most commonly used for gynaecological, urological, and gastroenterological surgical intervention.
