Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Barkatali has been providing medico-legal advice for a number of years. He is registered with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. Mr Barkatali enjoys a full medico-legal practice instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence actions. Mr Barkatali holds weekly medico-legal clinics in Manchester, but is happy to travel in order to conduct home and prison visits. His Claimant/Defendant ratio split is approximately 90/10 and he can usually turnaround reports within 10-12 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Bilal Barkatali has been a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust since 2014. He has extensive experience in major & poly-trauma surgery, general trauma & elective surgery, musculoskeletal injuries, specialist surgery of the knee and hip including joint replacement surgery, soft tissue surgery, limb realignment surgery and joint preservation surgery.

Clinical Interests

Mr Barkatali has a special interest in sports injuries and trauma related pathology of the knee, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)/multi-ligament reconstruction, meniscal repair/resection, patello-femoral instability, medial patello-femoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction, and tibial surgery for degenerative pathology.

Research Interests

Mr Barkatali is the Clinical Lead for Research at the Salford Royal NHS Trust and has an active research interest in a range of orthopaedic topics such as stem cell and biological treatments, tissue bioengineering, biomechanics, and gait analysis.

Summary of Publications

Mr Barkatali has published peer-reviewed research articles and numerous book chapters. He is currently involved in a number of on-going projects in his role as the Clinical Lead for Research at the Salford Royal Hospital NHS Trust.

Teaching & Training

Mr Barkatali is a keen educator and holds an honorary senior lectureship at the University of Manchester. He has been invited to give presentations at both national and international meetings/conferences.
