Medico-Legal experience

Professor Child has been writing medicolegal reports for 18 years. He has attended training in the form of report writing workshops. Professor Child is happy to be instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence cases.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Professor Child completed his undergraduate training at the Universities of Cambridge and London, before undertaking postgraduate training in Oxford and Montreal. His MD was awarded by the University of London, titled ‘Clinical and ultrasound prediction of outcome in unstimulated oocyte in-vitro maturation cycles.’ From 1994. Professor Child has specialised in women’s health and reproductive medicine; he was appointed in 2004 as a Senior Fellow at the University of Oxford and an Honorary Consultant Gynaecologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Professor Child co-founded Central and Northern Europe’s largest IVF group, The Fertility Partnership (TFP) and held the positions of Group Medical Director and Medical Director of TFP Oxford Fertility. Currently, Professor Child is an Associate Professor of Reproductive Medicine in Oxford and a Board Member of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA).

Clinical Interests

Professor Child’s work is focussed on female and male infertility, miscarriage, endometriosis and pelvic pain.

Research Interests

Professor Child’s research is focussed on elucidating the causes of reproductive failure and examining novel treatment regimes with improved outcomes and reduced risks.

Management Experience

Professor Child has held numerous management posts including Group Medical Director of TFP’s 20 clinics in 6 countries, and Medical Director of TFP Oxford Fertility, one of the UK’s largest IVF units.

Summary of Publications

Professor Child has over 100 papers and chapters published. Recent publications have included: Elective freezing of embryos versus fresh embryo transfer in IVF: a multicentre randomized controlled trial in the UK (E-Freeze). Hum Reprod 2022 Mar 1;37(3):476-487. ASPP2 maintains the integrity of mechanically stressed pseudostratified epithelia during morphogenesis. Nature Communications 2022 Feb 17;13(1):941. Teaching & Training

Professor Child holds the position of Associate Professor of Reproductive Medicine and Surgery with the University of Oxford, and lectures students and junior doctors, plus embryologists on the award winning Oxford MSc Clinical Embryology course (which he co-founded). He is also the co-author of the UK’s highest selling undergraduate textbook in O&G, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Impey & Child, Wiley, now in its 5th Edition.
