Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Murray has been acting as an expert witness for multiple years and has undergone expert witness training. Mr Murray enjoys a full medico-legal practice instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence cases.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Murray completed his surgical training in the North West. Following this, he was appointed as a Senior Clinical and Endovascular Fellow at the John Hunter Hospital, Australia. In 2010, he returned to the UK and was appointed as Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Manchester Infirmary and was the Clinical Head and Greater Manchester Lead of the Vascular Service for four years.

Clinical Interests

Mr Murray’s NHS and private practice encompasses all aspects of modern vascular practise with a specialist interest in complex aneurysm repair. Mr Murray specializes in Minimally invasive surgery for peripheral vascular disease, complex abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms, carotid and stroke surgery, and treatment for varicose veins. He performs all surgeries including caricose veins surgery, carotid surgery for stroke prevention, and endovenous vein surgery.

Research Interests

Mr Murray was the Clinical Research Fellow to the UK Centre for Tissue Engineering. This post was jointly funded by the MRC, BBSRC, and ESPRC. Mr Murray’s MD Thesis investigated tissue engineering of an autologous arterial conduit, with particular reference to genetic and molecular approaches to augment ex-vivo graft development using cloned growth factors and adenoviral transfection strategies. Mr Murray is currently involved in aortic stent graft registries. His research portfolio reflects all aspects of vascular practise with a special interest in complex aneurysm repair and he acts as Chief Investigator to aneurysm device research and registries.

Management Experience

Mr Murray was the Clinical Lead (Governance) for the Surgical Lead Patient track Board between 2010-2018. This included all aspects of effectiveness/governance within the Vascular Department including complaints, HLI root cause investigation, safeguarding, and risk registry. Additionally, following the procurement of the Complex Endovascular Aortic Programme in Manchester with NHS England and the successful development of the hybrid theatre complex at CMFT, Mr Murray has been instrumental in setting up, leading, and managing the governance of this service. Mr Murray was the Clinical Head of the Cardiovascular Division at the Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Summary of Publications

Mr Murray has published in over 60 peer-reviewed scientific journals. He is actively involved in research and the NIHR Lead for vascular surgery in Manchester, where he is the Principal and Chief Investigator for many aortic research projects.

Teaching & Training

Mr Murray was the Surgical Training Committee Vascular Representative CMFT between 2015-2019. He was the Faculty Trainer for the North West Vascular Teaching Programme where he contributed to the teaching programme for vascular trainees. Mr Murray was also Educational and Clinical Supervisor to FY1/2 and CT1/1 Vascular Trainees MFT in 2014 where he was responsible for clinical supervision to two FY1 trainees and two CT trainees in the Vascular Department.
