Medico-Legal experience

Dr Singh has undergone formal training in medicolegal expert witness report writing and courtroom skills. He has certification from Bond Solon / University of Aberdeen as an expert witness and is well versed in the procedural distinctions between the legal systems of England and Wales and that of Scotland, ensuring the highest professional standards. His primary focus is on clinical negligence with equal weighting to claimant and defence work. He is also open to personal injury instructions.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Singh is a consultant cardiologist based in Edinburgh. He works in Victoria Hospital – a district general hospital in Fife, as well as the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, which is a regional cardiac centre. He is also an honorary senior clinical lecturer with the University of St Andrews.

Dr Singh has advanced specialist qualifications in heart rhythm, cardiac devices and heart failure management. His clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of general cardiology, providing comprehensive care for a wide range of cardiac pathology utilising an array of investigative modalities.

He performs over 200 cardiac device implants / extraction procedures a year.

Clinical Interests

Dr Singh is a recognised thought leader in the field of cardiac devices with specialist expertise in pacemakers and implantable defibrillators. He is a regular speaker at national and international conferences. In 2022 Dr. Singh pioneered Scotland’s first left bundle branch pacing service, setting a new benchmark for advanced cardiac care in the region. He is also part of a high volume, supra-regional cardiac device lead management team, providing expert care for complex device cases across the north, south and east of Scotland.

Research Interests

As Principal Investigator in pioneering clinical trials on advanced pacemaker technologies, Dr. Singh is at the forefront of innovation in cardiac device therapy. His published work in heart failure therapeutics further reinforces his expertise in the evolving landscape of cardiovascular interventions, providing a robust foundation for expert medico-legal opinion.

Management Experience

Dr. Singh leads the Cardiac Arrhythmia and Implantable Devices Unit in his hospital. Nationally, he serves as the Programme Director for Scientific Sessions at the British Heart Rhythm Society, shaping the educational and scientific direction of the UK’s leading arrhythmia body. He is an appointed expert advisor to the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), where he contributes to regulatory decisions on cardiac technologies and safety.Locally, he sits on the Cardiac Arrest and Resuscitation Committee of the Fife Health Board and co-chairs the Clinical Governance Committee within the Department of Cardiology, helping to drive quality improvement and patient safety initiatives. He previously served as an area expert to the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for drug and device evaluations and was a member of the British Cardiovascular Society’s National Guidelines and Practice Committee, contributing to the development of national cardiovascular care standards.

Summary of Publications

Dr Singh has authored over 25 peer-reviewed, high-impact publications in leading international journals, with a particular focus on innovative clinical trials and translational research in heart failure, diabetes, and cardiovascular therapeutics. His research has advanced the understanding and management of complex cardiac conditions, underpinning his authority in the area.

Teaching & Training

Dr. Singh has a passion for teaching and training, from delivering bedside clinical teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate candidates, all the way upto training consultant cardiologists on pacemaker implantation techniques internationally. He also proctors other NHS cardiologists in Scotland and England on left bundle branch area pacing.
