Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Dr Brown has been providing medico-legal advice for a number of years. She has undergone her expert witness training. She is registered with APIL, AvMA, the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. Dr Brown enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimant and Defendant law firms in actions relating to personal injury and clinical negligence. Her Claimant/Defendant ratio split is approximately 80/20 and she can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Brown has worked as a Consultant Haematologist at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust since 2016 following her specialist training in haematology in the North West. Since 2017, she has been the General Haematology Lead and the Pre-Operative Anaemia Service Lead. Dr Brown has an active role in laboratory haematology and was Clinical Lead from 2017. Since April 2020, Dr Brown has been the Clinical Director of Laboratory Haematology. Dr Brown is a member of the Reporting Team for the regional haemato-oncology cancer diagnostics partnership for Manchester.

Clinical Interests

Dr Brown has a broad haematology clinical practice, managing patients with haematological malignancy such as myeloma, chronic myeloid leukaemia, myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) and myelodysplastic syndromes. She is the Trust Lead for MPN patients and has a specialist interest in this area. She also manages general haematology patients including those with venous thromboembolism (DVT/PE), iron deficiency anaemia and chronic blood abnormalities such as neutropenia, thrombocytopenia and anaemia.

Research Interests

Dr Brown is the Principal Investigator at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust for studies in myeloproliferative disorders. She has also taken part in clinical trials in lymphoproliferative, myeloma and thrombotic disorders. She has published on haemostasis and thrombosis.

Teaching & Training

Dr Brown is the Training Programme Director in Haematology for Health Education North West and has a passion for educating doctors and other health care professionals; she has mentioned two advanced nurse practitioners through their master's degrees and several nurses through their non-medical prescribing course.
