Clinical Practice & Experience
Mr Simon Galloway is a highly respected Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon practising at the Wythenshawe Hospital, where he has been a consultant since March 2000. Up until recently, Mr Galloway was also the Clinical Director for Surgery at the Wythenshawe Hospital.
Clinical Interests
Upper gastro-intestinal disease, gallstones and laparoscopic cholecystectomy, achalasia, cancer of the oesophagus and stomach, reflux disease, heartburn and hiatus hernia treatments, laparoscopic fundoplication, inguinal hernia, umbilical hernia, femoral hernia, incisional hernia and recurrent hernias, open and laparoscopic surgery with mesh, endoscopy – gastroscopy sigmoidoscopy.
Research Interests
Mr Galloway is interested in the immunology of oesophago-gastric cancer.
Summary of Publications
Mr Galloway has published widely in peer-reviewed journals on all aspects of general and oesophago-gastric surgery.
Teaching & Training
Mr Galloway is an Educational Supervisor to all grades of junior doctors and undergraduates. He is also a Consultant Appraiser.

Medico-Legal experience
Mr Galloway has been providing medico-legal advice for a number of years. He has undergone his expert witness training. He is registered with APIL, AvMA, National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. Mr Galloway enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimant and Defendant law firms in actions relating to personal injury and clinical negligence. Mr Galloway holds weekly medico-legal clinics in Manchester, but is happy to travel in order to conduct home and prison visits. His Claimant/Defendant ratio split is approximately 60/40 and he can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.
