Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Alexander is registered with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL), the National Crime Agency (NCA), and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. He is happy to be instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence actions. Mr Alexander has attended multiple medico-legal training courses, these being: ‘Bond Solon: Excellence in Report Writing’, ‘Electronic Learning for Healthcare’ taught by the Health Education England, and ‘doctors in the witness box: A practical guide to attending court and giving evidence’ taught by the Medical Protection Society. Mr Alexander is also in the process of completing the Bond Solon courses: 'Civil Law & Procedure (England & Wales)', and 'Discussion Between Experts'; due to be completed March 2023. Mr Alexander can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Alexander has practised as a Consultant Plastic, Burns, and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust since 2018, and an Honorary (Consultant) Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham since 2020. He qualified, attaining an MBChB, at the University of Edinburgh. Mr Alexander undertook further education whilst working, achieving qualifications of an MRCS, PG Dip (Burn Care), and an FRCS (Plast). From 2008, he practised as a Plastic Surgery Registrar until 2016 when he undertook the Victorian Burn Fellowship in Melbourne, Australia. In 2017, also in Melbourne, Mr Alexander completed a Microsurgery and Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship, under the internationally renowned surgeon Mr Damian Grinsell. In 2018 he moved back to the United Kingdom.

Clinical Interests

Mr Alexander holds subspeciality interests in burn injuries, lower limb trauma/reconstruction, plastic surgery trauma, scar management, perineal reconstruction, and general plastic surgery.

Research Interests

As a Plastic, Burns, and Reconstructive Surgeon, much of Mr Alexander's research focuses on the management and outcomes for burns and lower limb trauma

Management Experience

Mr Alexander is his department’s clinical lead for trauma and also governance.

Summary of Publications

Mr Alexander has produced over 20 peer-reviewed articles. He has produced multiple articles in his field of work, such as: An evaluation of Diphoterine®, and an evaluation of Epiprotect® burns dressings in young children. He has also researched other foci within plastic surgery, such as: A combination single CT scan for breast cancer staging and reconstruction, and comparative osteoradionecrosis rates in bony reconstructions for head and neck malignancy. Mr Alexander is a reviewer for numerous journals: The Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery (JPRAS); Burns; Injury; Trauma; and Burns, Scars and Healing. He has also acted as a professional expert for The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Teaching & Training

Mr Alexander is currently an Honorary (Consultant) Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham’s School of Medicine. He supervises MSc students and has created Special Study Modules in Plastic Surgery for 4th Year medical students. He is the supervisor for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Burns and Plastics.
