Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Mr Rashid has been providing medico-legal advice for a number of years. He has undergone his expert witness training. He is registered with APIL, AvMA, the National Crime Agency (NCA) and the UK Register of Expert Witnesses. Mr Rashid enjoys a full medico-legal practice representing both Claimant and Defendant law firms in actions relating to personal injury and clinical negligence. He holds weekly medico-legal clinics in Manchester but is happy to travel in order to conduct home and prison visits. His Claimant/Defendant ratio split is approximately 85/15 and he can usually turnaround reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Mr Rashid is currently appointed as a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) and has been Clinical Lead since 2021. Having received training in all the common forms of vascular surgery, Mr Rashid went on to be a Fellow in Australia learning advanced endovascular and vascular techniques with a particular focus on diabetic foot disease and limb salvage.

Clinical Interests

Mr Rashid has an interest in all aspects of vascular surgery particularly minimally invasive techniques, including percutaneous EVAR and tumescence-free endovenous ablation. He has a particular focus in limb preservation and diabetic foot disease with complex, ultra-distal re-vascularisation using both open surgical and endovascular techniques. He has developed the most comprehensive MDT Limb Preservation and Foot Service in the North-West of England to include complex foot surgery, coordinated offloading and advanced wound management techniques.

Research Interests

Mr Rashid has both clinical and laboratory-based research interests. His basic science research was in regenerative medicine having completed a PhD in tissue engineering, a post-doctoral lectureship in endothelial progenitor stem cells and more recently the role of progenitor stem cells in diabetes and peripheral arterial disease. In addition to this, he has also undertaken clinical research in venous, renovascular and aneurysm disease. His current focus is on trials to improve wound healing in neuroischaemic and diabetic foot disease.

Summary of Publications

Mr Rashid has over 50 publications and conference presentations including 10 peer-reviewed, first-author publications in leading medical and scientific journals. These cover basic science topics in regenerative medicine; the broad range of vascular surgery from venous, aortic and peripheral arterial disease; and more recently wound healing in the diabetic foot.

Teaching & Training

Mr Rashid is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. Notably, he has developed surgical skills workshops for trainee surgeons and has lectured medical students. He is often an invited speaker at regional, national and international conference and symposia on peripheral arterial disease as well as being on the advisory boards of several multinational healthcare companies.
