Medico-Legal experience

Rebecca has had training in advanced report and statement writing. She has led on internal investigations, producing reports and presenting them internally and also at Coroners court on many occasions. Rebecca is happy to accept instructions from both the Claimant and the Defence.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Since qualifying as a Registered General Nurse in 2002, Rebecca has worked at the Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust within the medical division, specialising in respiratory nursing. Predominantly her work has been on the respiratory wards but also in the community as a TB nurse. In recent years Rebecca has focused on improving care for the acutely unwell patient by implementing training whilst striving to improve nursing standards and patient outcomes.

Currently, Rebecca is a matron within the acute adult care division at the Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Rebecca overseas the respiratory wards, complex care ward, thoracic medicine department, dermatology department, respiratory physiology and CURE team.

During her 23 years at Bolton Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Rebecca has had experience in change management projects and improvements through ‘Lean’ processes and QI engagement. Rebecca led and managed the respiratory team through COVID, implementing care under quickly evolving circumstances. Rebecca developed a pleural service starting from a small room to an ever developing functioning pleural service which has led to improved patient experience and outcomes whilst meeting / maintaining National standards.

Clinical Interests

Rebecca’s current role is that of matron within the Medical directorate. Rebecca’s main interest is that of respiratory care but has a solid nursing base of 23 years’ experience. Rebecca has extended her clinical practice and has completed her Non-medical prescribing (V300) – she is registered with the NMC as a nurse prescriber. Alongside this she has also completed her clinical observations course.

Management Experience

Rebecca has obtained a Master’s degree in Management and Leadership from the University of Lancaster alongside an apprenticeship and is now registered with the Chartered Managers Register. Rebecca role is to provide leadership through role modelling for nurses, AHPs and other professionals in the Acute Adult Care Division. Rebecca displays a clear visible leadership style built on compassion and accountability.

Teaching & Training

Rebecca has always had an interest in the development of staff; developing new staff and enhancing the knowledge of existing staff to maintain standards. Rebecca has close relationships with the University of Greater Manchester and has been a clinical support in the recruitment of nursing students. She has been part of the University’s NMC validation, ensuring the university and its students maintain the standards required for the delivery of quality care. Rebecca implemented a new way of teaching of nursing students through coaching and was recognised by receiving the award from North West Learning in Practice. This project was successful and was nominated at the Nursing Times awards – receiving high recognition from the panel.In recent years Rebecca has developed a rolling competency programme for the respiratory team, teaching and empowering nurses to provide a high level of clinical care. Rebecca has developed training packages which have been validated by the University of Salford.
