Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Dr Narayan is currently undergoing his expert witness training. He is happy to be instructed by Claimant and Defendant law firms in both personal injury and clinical negligence cases. Dr Narayan is happy to conduct home visits and can produce reports within 6-8 weeks, sooner if required.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Omendra Narayan qualified in 2002 and carried out his paediatric specialist rotation at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital and the Great Ormond Street Hospital. He went on to carry out his subspecialty training in paediatric respiratory medicine at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, before joining the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) as a Consultant in 2015. Whilst at RMCH he managed all aspects of paediatric pulmonology but led the bronchoscopy, sleep, and long-term ventilation services.
Recently, Dr Narayan has joined the American Hospital in Dubai as a Consultant Paediatric Pulmonologist and leads the Paediatric Pulmonology service and is an Honorary Associate Professor at University of Sharjah.

Clinical Interests

Dr Narayan specialises in all aspects of paediatric respiratory medicine, namely any condition that affects a child’s lungs and airways (breathing tubes/windpipe). Areas of interest include asthma, chronic cough, recurrent chest infections, new-born breathing problems/reflux, allergy-related disorders, noisy breathing/ stridor, bronchiolitis, sleep-related breathing disorder, paediatric bronchoscopy, bronchiectasis, congenital lung disease, cystic fibrosis, and rare lung disorders.

Research Interests

Dr Narayana's research interests include all aspects of breathing problems but primarily in sleep.

Management Experience

Dr Narayan serves as the Lead for the Pulmonology department at American Hospital Dubai, concurrently fulfilling the role of Clinical lead for the Sleep and Long-term Ventilation service at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital and holding an executive positions within the British Sleep Society & British Paediatric Respiratory Society.

Summary of Publications

Dr. Narayan's recent publications cover a wide range of topics within pediatric respiratory medicine. These include studies on long-term ventilation practices, optimizing ventilation for children with specific conditions like SMA type 1, and the utility of diagnostic tools such as the G274 Delta 12s index for obstructive sleep apnea. Additionally, there are contributions to understanding unintentional exposures during medical procedures and the safety of specific diagnostic techniques like linear endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) in pediatric patients. The research reflects a commitment to improving the care and outcomes for children with respiratory conditions, including addressing emerging challenges such as COVID-19

Teaching & Training

Dr Narayan is passionate about education; he is actively involved in both undergraduate and post-graduate training. In undergraduate education, he is an Associate Hospital Dean for Portfolio and Personal Development (PPD) at the Manchester Foundation Trust and an Academic Advisor for medical students at the Manchester Medical School, University of Manchester. He is an educational supervisor for two paediatric trainees, including a National Grid Trainee and a Clinical Placement supervisor for year 4 medical students. Further, he is an APLS instructor and a OSCE Examiner at the Manchester Medical School, King's College London. In post-graduate education, Dr Narayan is an Associate Director Medical Education (ADME) for trainees at the Manchester Foundation Trust. Previously, he was a RCPCH College Tutor for RMCH and a RCPCH CSAC Quality Advisor. Dr Narayan has successfully designed a new virtual paediatric teaching programme at RMCH.
