Overview

Medico-Legal experience

Dr Tholouli is happy to be instructed by both Claimant and Defendant law firms in personal injury and clinical negligence matters.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Tholouli graduated in Germany and completed her haematology specialist training in Manchester where she also undertook a PhD at Manchester University investigating prognostic molecular markers in acute myeloid leukaemia. She then consolidated her transplant experience as a Transplant Fellow at the Fred Hutchinson Research Cancer Centre in Seattle, USA, one of the world’s largest stem cell transplant centres. On her return in 2007, she was appointed as a Consultant Haematologist and the Director of the Adult Stem Cell Transplant unit at Manchester Royal Infirmary. Over the years she has expanded the transplant services by pioneering alternative donor options (Umbilical cord blood and haplo-identical) and novel transplant indications (Multiple sclerosis, sickle cell disease) and set up cellular and gene therapies such as CAR-Ts, making Manchester Royal Infirmary one of the UKs largest centres.

Clinical Interests

Dr Tholouli’s expertise covers a wide range of haemato-oncological malignancies (acute and chronic leukaemia, myeloid/lymphoid leukaemia, myelodysplastic syndrome, myeloproliferative disorder, myelofibrosis, plasmacytoma, multiple myeloma, AL-amyloidosis, all types of lymphoma including Burkitt’s, post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders and Waldenstroem’s) and non-malignant disorders (inherited/acquired bone marrow failures, aplastic anaemia, Fanconi’s, HLH, primary/secondary immunodeficiencies, mastocytosis), all aspects of stem cell transplantation and post-transplant complications including veno-occlusive disease, microangiopathy, capillary leak syndrome, idiopathic pneumonitis, neutropenic sepsis, neutropenic colitis, unusual infections of the immunocompromised host including aspergillus, candida, CMV/EBV/Adenovirus/COVID reactivations/infections, engraftment failure, graft-versus-host-disease and many others.

Research Interests

Dr Tholouli has a special interest in leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma, stem cell transplantation, and cellular & gene therapies. She is Principal Investigator for multiple complex phase 1-4 clinical trials as well as Chief/Co-Investigator for trials in leukaemia. She is a member of the AML working party and steering group, directly influencing the design of trials investigating new therapies in the UK.
