Medico-Legal experience

Dr Gupta’s BSc in Medical Ethics and Law has helped provide her with a fundamental understanding about the medico-legal framework. She is happy to accept instructions from both Claimant and Defendant law firms.

Clinical Practice & Experience

Dr Alka Gupta graduated from the University of Manchester with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (2007). Since then, she has gained multiple qualifications with a focus in sexual and reproductive healthcare and women’s health, including achieving a Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning and a Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetrics & Gynecology (2010). Dr Gupta has over 10 years’ worth of experience working as a GP for both the NHS and private sector. Currently, Dr Gupta works as a Bupa GP, a Locum GP, and is a Clinical Debrief Tutor for the University of Manchester.

Clinical Interests

Although she has enjoyed a varied experience during her role as a GP, Dr Gupta has a particular interest in sexual and reproductive healthcare. She is trained to fit intrauterine and subdermal contraceptive devices. She also delivers focused menopause care. Alongside this, Dr Gupta also works with a range of systems across areas within Greater Manchester and understands the importance of diversity and the influence of cultural and ethnic factors when delivering medical care.

Management Experience

Dr Gupta annually participates in managing a group of medical student volunteers in a health promotion event aimed at engaging and educating local communities about health issues.

Summary of Publications

Dr Gupta has been involved in multiple poster presentations on subjects such as: the ‘Audit to determine whether memory clinic criteria are according to those set by NICE dementia guidelines’ (Faculty of Old Age Psychiatry Annual Meeting Stratford, March 2011), ‘Health Mela – an effective way of promoting health amongst South Asians’ (RCGP annual conference, Harrogate international Centre, October 2010), and ‘Does the NHS meet the needs and ethical concerns of local elderly patients’ (University of Lancaster, 2006).

Teaching & Training

Dr Gupta enjoys her role as a Clinical Debrief Tutor for the University of Manchester where she maximises her leadership and teaching skills by facilitating a group of third year medical students weekly. She is passionate about medical education and supports as a clinical skills examiner.
